Why we're getting behind Mark and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local hockey player, Mark Gleghorne, as he attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Mark, who trains locally in Loughborough, has been playing hockey since he could walk and has already represented both Ireland and Great Britain at international level. At the age of 26, he has already been the third top goal scorer in the 2009-10 Dutch Hoofdklasse league season (widely regarded as the best hockey league in the world) and was a gold medal winner at the 2005 European Championships and 2002 U18 European Championships.

Mark commented: ‘I love BMWs and can't believe that I'm going to be driving a new BMW X1 from now until the end of the London 2012 Games. I have a really demanding training schedule and I do a lot of travelling to promote the Games so having the X1 is brilliant. Thank you so much Stratstone Derby and BMW.’
